"Introducing Our Doreen
"Our Doreen has silver white hair, short back and sides,
has blue eyes, pinkie blue glasses, is small in stature, has
a quick wit, a ready smile, enjoys a good joke and is seventy
six years young.
"For the last four years, Doreen has volunteered her
time in the canteen. She arrives at TLC Canteen every Tuesday
without fail at 9.00 am and works through to 2 pm [we do stop
for a cuppa, a chin wag and a sandwich].
"She makes the best winter soups, pasties and macaroni
cheese. She never needs a recipe and just loves the kitchen
scene.
"Our Doreen must have a beautiful garden as she always
brings in a bunch of flowers that sit on the counter and the
groundsman says, "Have you been 'ratting' the school garden?"
No, they are from our Doreen!
"Our Doreen, as well as donating her time in the canteen,
has been a college Council member for two years. She also
knits, sews and bakes cakes for our annual Deutschfest and
still has time for her family and grandchildren.
"Tuesday is looked forward to by the students and staff
as Doreen spoils them by cooking up a huge batch of cornflake
biscuits which come out of the oven just as the recess bell
goes.
"Our Doreen also comes in and helps with Special Theme
days eg Celebrating Book Week, Italian Day Luncheon, National
Healthy Bones, Grandparents Special Day luncheons, etc., where
we complement the theme with a lunch meal.
"I think Doreen is very special, and just to top it
off, Doreen is a keen golfer, plays nine holes of golf nearly
every week and bakes Cornish pasties for golf prizes.
"If I can do as much as Doreen at 76 years, I will be
very happy."
