"Pat has been a longstanding voluntary worker in our school
canteen.
"She first commenced working as a volunteer when her
granddaughter, who is in her final year of university, commenced
primary school.
"She has undertaken the role of voluntary canteen manager
for the past 9 years even though her grandchildren left our
school many years ago.
"Pat has an excellent rapport with our students, staff
and our school community.
"She is always willing to try new ideas in the canteen
and to implement initiatives which increase the range of healthy
food choices for our students.
"Pat has attended a number of VSCA workshops to increase
her skills in canteen management and she willingly dedicates
hours of her own time and energy to ordering supplies, preparing
the menu, organising the roster of volunteers and setting
up for our weekly breakfast club program. She is amazing!
"Without Pat's dedication to our canteen and school,
we would not be able to provide a foodservice. Pat is a very
worthy candidate for this award."
Weekly Breakfast Club
"The idea originated from the Assistant Principal who
is also the Welfare Officer and observed the need to provide
breakfast for students.
"It was originally funded by a grant from Safeway. Now
it is funded by community resources - other grants have been
sought unsuccessfully.
"Breakfast is provided once a week (on Fridays) to any
students.
"Currently it is free but previously it was by a gold
coin donation.
"The menu consists of Weet-Bix with milk, wholemeal
toast and hot Milo.
"Pat sets up the physical space and lays out the breakfast.
She is not actually there at the time it is served.
"This is the 3rd year of operation."
