"I am pleased to nominate Mary Pulis as VSCA P-12 School
Canteen Assistant of the Year (paid position).
Mary works with me from 8.50 am until 3.00 pm Monday to Friday.
The Caroline Springs College - Creekside Campus has had a
meteoric growth rise. When the school opened in 2005 we had
250 students. In 2006 we increased to 600 and in 2007 we have
850. The 2008 student numbers will be approximately 1250.
We are still operating in the came canteen premises, with
generally the same storage, refrigerator and freezer facilities.
Mary puts on all of the hot food, checks through lunch orders
for sandwich/roll orders, prepares all sandwiches, rolls and
pita wraps, makes souvlakis and does all of the dishes each
day. This is all completed before 10.30 am each day, when
we commence to pack the lunch orders for an 11.00 am lunch
break. She then serves during window sales from 11.00 am until
11.40 am. After this, Mary continues to clean "like a
woman possessed" and will help count the takings, box
up the frozen food ready to put on the next morning, stock
up fridges and freezers and any other tasks she is allocated.
After serving for the afternoon tea window sales from 1.45
pm until 2.10 pm, Mary will wash the last of the dishes and
then sweep and mop the canteen floor. Most days, she does
this with little or no break in her day.
During February to June of this year, I was unable to work
and Mary took on the extra work-load without complaint.
All Ccanteen Managers should be as fortunate as I am, to
have such a diligent and hard-working Assistant."
