I would like to nominate a very special person for VSCA Primary
School Canteen Helper of the Year. Karen Davies has been a
weekly volunteer in our canteen for nearly 9 years.
If I'm sick, I call Karen. If I need an extra helper, I call
Karen. If I'm desperate for a fill-in, I call Karen - and
she never says no. She is the first one to offer an extra
day's help whenever we are short.
She will always help out on extra treat days, she comes with
me to canteen meetings to keep me company, and replaces me
while I entertain next year's prep parents to try and get
them to volunteer.
Her husband would like her to get a paid job, but she has
told him she doesn't have time to work, in between her canteen
commitments, and her daughters' high school where she also
helps out with tutoring and in the library, and her daughters'
many extra-curricular activities.
I don't know how we would cope without her, and I hope we
don't have to any time soon. She is an absolute treasure,
and has become a very dear friend.
